The fighting that lead to Marina’s suicide attempt on 23 February was the last straw for their neighbors. After four months of the Oswald’s constant yelling, the landlord asked them to find someplace else to live. Lee found an upstairs apartment in a rundown duplex just around the corner at 214 West Neely Street. They walked their belongings over on 3 March - 60 years ago today.
As shabby as the new place was, it was a big improvement from the slum on Elsbeth Street. Marina enjoyed sunning herself and the baby on the front balcony. There was a small backyard where she could hang their laundry out to dry in the fresh air. Lee liked it as well because he had room for a small study, off of the living room and at the top of the stairs down into the backyard.
Lee’s violent rages towards Marina subsided markedly. She credited this positive change to Lee’s study, where he locked himself away for hours working on something. She didn’t know what he was working on but it kept him busy and in a good mood towards her.
What Lee was working on was his plan to assassinate the anti-Cuba, former General Edwin Walker.
