Hi Steve, I have not read JFK and the Unspeakable by James Douglas but I will. I have read reviews that note that it approaches the assassination from a strategic perspective - JFK was turning to peace and that gave unnamed Cold Warriors an incentive to get him out of the way. I approach the assassination from a tactical, fact-perspective - the hard facts prove that Oswald fired the two shots that hit and killed the President. This leaves the question for Mr. Douglas of how did the "Cold Warriors" convince or trick the pro-Castro Oswald to do their bidding? I have not seem a plausible answer to that question.

FYI - I am giving an on-line lecture on the assassination entitled "A Spy Unveils the Cover-Ups" sponsored by the Road Scholar organization next Wednesday, 8 November. It is free for anyone interested. You might enjoy it. Kind regards, Bruce

I agree that it definitely comes at it from a preconceived angle, and it was actually what I was looking for when I looked into it. I had finished reading more of a “fact” based book and decided I wanted to read a more “conspiracy” based book. I hope you enjoy it. The lecture you mention sounds very interesting, I’ll try to attend! Do you have a link/location for attending?

Hi Steve - I read JFK the Unspeakable. It was interesting to see how people with other perspectives deal with historical facts. Ultimately, I was unconvinced because Douglass chooses to omit documented historical facts that don't fit his thesis.

For example, he says at the bottom of page 250, for example, "Having taken the momentous step of approving the secret talks with Castro, President Kennedy...."

JFK did no such thing. At the 5 November 1963 meeting of the Special Group on Cuba, Booby Kennedy, speaking for his brother, slammed the door on such secret talks (see my 5 November blog post for the document reference). Willian Atwood and journalist Lisa Howard were lobbying for the talks and McGeorge Bundy supported them but Bobby Kennedy, speaking for his brother, said NO!

I also return to the historical fact that Oswald fired the two shots that hit and killed the President. How does he explain that? He doesn't even try.

Best, b.

Thanks for your comments on the book from a perspective of more study on the subject than I have. I certainly found the book fascinating and it achieved the goal I sought, which was reading a more “conspiracy” based book. I’ve only read one other book on the subject, which was Bill O’Reilly’s Killing JFK. I believe he stayed more aligned with the conventional determination of the assassination but it wasn’t terribly deep historically.

Thanks for your historical writing on the subject, I’ve been enjoying it.

FYI - Mr. Douglass also founded "Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth" which asserts that 9/11 was the result of a US Government conspiracy.

Bruce, have you read JFK and The Unspeakable? I heard RFJ Jr. recommend it when doing an interview once. I just finished it a month ago and it raised some fascinating things. Makes it hard to know what to believe.
